It’s Been Too Long

I have lots to blog about but not enough time! Sorry for that! I do have a great recipe that I’d love to share with you, but I’ll have to post that tomorrow because I haven’t had time to write the actual post yet.

I do have some great news to share though!

I started this journey wearing a size 28/30 jean from Avenue. I had to go to Avenue because I was having trouble fitting into the size 28 jeans at Lane Bryant. This past weekend I went shopping for some new jeans because the size 26 jeans I had just weren’t staying up. I was constantly pulling up my pants from falling off of me. NOT a good problem to have.

I started off with a size 24. They fit but they were still a little big in the legs. I have smaller legs than my actual waist size. So, I tried a size 22…..and…..they fit!

I also got a couple of new shirts in size 22/24 as well! VERY exciting as its been a while since I’ve seen this size fit.

I used to really love shopping back when I was younger (and smaller). Over time, I grew to hate it because stuff wouldn’t fit and if it did fit, I looked horrible in it. Slowly, I’m learning to love it again. This weekend trying on clothes was actually fun again. I even went into a store in the mall (The Gap) and tried on a pair of size 20 black pants. They fit in the legs and butt, but not in the waist. I was ok with that because I realized how close I was to being able to fit into clothes from a normal store again. Soooooo exciting!

While I was out shopping, I came across this Vera Bradley wallet I’ve been wanting to buy for quite some time. I decided today was a day to celebrate, so I bought myself the wallet.

It’s exactly what I’ve been needing.

This weekend was a total success!

I’m more motivated than ever to keep up the great work so that I can go buy some size 20 pants in the near future.

Saturday…. aka My Longest Post Ever

I finally got the time to write about my weekend trip and I’m excited to tell you all about it. We did a lot in those 2 short weekend days, so I’m going to split it up. Today, I’ll tell you all about last Saturday.

First, we drove down to Dallas from Tulsa. It took a little over 4 hours and the time flew by because I was enjoying spending time with my mom and grandma. Once we got there, we checked into our hotel where my sister picked us up to go get our hair did.

This was my first time seeing my sister pregnant, and let me tell you, she’s the cutest pregnant person ever! Seriously, adorable! I’m not just saying that because she’s my sister either. πŸ™‚

We went to Hair Bar to get our hair done. It’s great because they wash and dry your hair and then fix it all pretty while you sit there and relax. Not a bad deal. Here are some pics I took while we got our hair done.

That last picture makes me laugh. In that picture, you can see how pissed my grandma is. She didn’t want anything done to her hair and she hated it afterwards, but we all thought her hair looked good.

And the finished products!

See what I mean about the cutest pregnant person ever?! πŸ™‚

After that, we went to lunch at a place called R & D. I am a horrible blogger and forgot to take a picture of my lunch, but it was so good that I wanna tell you about it. I had the Thai tuna sushi. In the roll, there was tuna, jalapeΓ±o, coconut flakes, avocado, and toasted macadamia nuts. It was nice to have a unique sushi roll, one that I can’t find in Tulsa. I’d love to go back there and try their other rolls!

After lunch, we headed over to the baby shower. Someone had put together a super cute diaper cake for my sister.

And there were some yummy foods like sun dried tomato mini sandwiches, hummus dip with veggies, stuffed strawberries, little quiches, and a beautiful fruit tart with lemon and mixed berries.

Here are some pics from the baby shower.

I didn’t get any pictures of my sister opening up her gifts because I was the official gift writer downer, but she got a lot of good stuff. Here’s a picture of the super cute quilt her mother-in-law made for her.

After the baby shower, my sister went home to relax for a little bit while my mom, my grandma, and I went to North Park Mall to do a little shopping. We hit up about 5 different stores, all of which we don’t have in Tulsa, so that was fun.

Lush was my favorite store, surprise surprise. I picked up some lotion, face and body scrub, face masks, soaps, lip scrub, and toothpaste tablets.

My favorite is their Karma Cream lotion. To me, it smells like a mix of play-doh, sugar cookie, and patchouli oil. Sounds weird, but it totally works together!

After shopping, we headed over to my sisters house for dinner. We made the 7 and 1/2 months pregnant woman cook for us. Not because we didn’t want to help, but because we had no idea what exactly she was making and neither did she!

My sister is like a mad scientist in the kitchen. She just starts getting random foods out of the fridge and brainstorms an idea for dinner. She’s pretty awesome like that. I’m not gonna lie, when I saw all the ingredients sitting out for dinner I thought, “What the heck are we eating for dinner?”

We ended up having veal scaloppine stuffed and rolled up with red bell pepper, zucchini, and basil served over marinara sauce with a side of truffled spaghetti squash with Parmesan cheese. Oh, and a side of roasted beets with sautΓ©ed nectarines.

I love eating what my sister cooks! She’s so creative and uses ingredients I don’t cook with often. And she always cooks healthy and delicious! I loved the spaghetti squash so much that I ended up making her recipe Sunday night for my weekly dinner, so I’ll be having truffled spaghetti squash all week. πŸ™‚

After dinner (or maybe before dinner, I can’t remember!) my sister gave me a gift. It was a necklace in the shape of a flower using only the heart shape.

The flower is me and the leaf is Ethan. She said that she wanted me to have something special that reminds me of him when I’m back in Tulsa. I thought this was extremely sweet of my sister. I love the necklace and I love things that have meaning, so that makes it even more special. πŸ™‚ Best. Sister. Ever.

We left my sisters house around 10:30 and headed back to the hotel. We were all pretty exhausted, but we had just enough energy left to wash our faces and put on face masks before bed.

We used the fresh face masks we’d gotten from Lush earlier. My mom used the oatflix mask which has oats, honey, ground almonds, and mashed bananas. I used the love lettuce mask which has seaweed, ground almonds, lavender oil, kaolin, and honey.

You can’t tell that my mom even has a mask on!

And our silly faces…..

Saturday was a fun day! It was great seeing my sister and getting to spend time together with just us girls. Sunday was great too, but you’ll have to wait until my next post for that. This post is already ridiculously long. You should get a reward for making it to the end! How does a high-five sound? πŸ™‚

Diet, I Cheated On You

So…….I had a cheat meal. Like full blown, deep fried, covered in gravy cheat meal. Literally. And it tasted so dang good. Here’s a picture of what I had. Caution! If you’re dieting and easily tempted, don’t look, just keep scrolling! Ok, you’ve been warned.

After the cheat meal, I sure was full. I expected to feel disgusting and possibly sick to my stomach, but I didn’t. In the past when I’d eat heavy, fattening foods, my stomach would be upset and I’d feel like blah. This time, I felt ok. I felt satisfied. I guess if you consume more fattening foods only occasionally it’s not so hard on your stomach. Either way, after I ate the cheat meal, I was already back to thinking about healthy eating.

I know on a lot of diets, people are allowed cheat meals, and now I see why. Sometimes, you just get that craving of wanting something. If you deprive yourself, you’re going to end up with cravings ten times worse. My craving that day was the fried something and mashed potatoes. The meal came with 2 sides so instead of having 2 unhealthy sides, I chose the cabbage to get at least a little bit of veggies in. πŸ™‚

So what does one do after they fill their self up with a cheat meal? Well they go clothes shopping of course. My sister’s baby shower is in less than 6 weeks and I really needed an outfit for it. Since I haven’t been buying clothes in the past year, I don’t have many clothing options that fit me. I seriously dread clothes shopping, but it really wasn’t so bad this time. Since I’ve dropped some pounds, the clothes actually fit a little better. Here’s what I ended up picking out.

I am in love with the periwinkle blue color of the cover up and shoes! And even though I’m obviously still very overweight, for the first time in a LONG time, I actually felt good about how I looked. It’s nice to SEE the progress and I’m excited for it to continue.

To continue with the great weekend, I made some super delicious homemade chicken noodle soup tonight! I’m seriously a soup-makin machine. It was just what I needed since I’ve been feeling a little sick all weekend.

Mmmm, it definitely warmed my tummy!

The great weekend continues tomorrow with Church, then lunch with my dad (we’re making healthy shrimp and grits!), grocery shopping, relaxing, dinner at my moms (Allan’s making spaghetti and homemade meatballs!), and then I’ll finish the Sunday off with The Oscars. Ah, life is good! πŸ™‚

The Peanut Butter Experiment

Ever since I attempted to make flavored peanut butter the other day, I’ve been dying to create a flavor that truly tastes like what it’s supposed to.

I went shopping yesterday with the BFF and we came across PB2.

It’s just peanut butter in powdered form. The great thing though about it is that it has only 45 calories for 2 tablespoons and only 1.5 grams of fat. It also has just 1 gram of sugar and 2 grams of fiber. Regular peanut butter has 94 calories and 8 grams of fat and that’s for only ONE tablespoon. I haven’t eaten much peanut butter since starting this healthy change because I didn’t want to waste my calories on just a bite of it, so it was nice to come across this much healthier version!

The instructions on the PB2 are to mix 2 tbs of the powder with 1 tbs of water. It creates a paste and then turns into peanut butter.

As I was out shopping yesterday I also came across some lemon extract. I was thinking some lemon poppyseed would be a fun flavor to try in a peanut butter. I knew I had a jar of poppy-seeds at home so I bought the lemon extract.

It wasn’t until later after I got home that I thought, “Hey, I could make a small batch of the PB2 peanut butter and flavor it to see how it tastes or if it works without having to make a big batch of peanut butter in my vita-mix.” I love it when the lightbulb in my head turns on.

So, I mixed up the PB2 and then added a little lemon extract and also some poppy-seeds. I stirred it up and then tasted it. So what’d it taste like? It tasted like a lemon poppyseed batter! It was DELICIOUS!

I don’t usually eat peanut butter in large amounts so I loved that it was just enough to scoop up in one spoonful. Soooo yummy!

I’m excited to try some new flavors with the extracts I bought last week. I’ve got banana cream, coconut, cherry, mango, and chocolate hazelnut. The BFF loves cherry chocolate, so I think I’ll try that one next. I’ve got cherry extract, dried cherries, chocolate chips, and cocoa powder so hopefully I can mix together something delicious for her! I’d love to make a banana bread, or toasted coconut, or tropical mango flavor soon too. If you have any flavor ideas, I’d love to hear them!

Chubby Girl Problems

I hate the F word. You know, that super offensive word. You guessed it…Fat. That is why I use the word chubby instead. Chubby isn’t exactly flattering either, but to me it sounds better than fat.

Being chubby isn’t something you can hide from people like you can other problems. So therefore I feel like it shouldn’t be something I TRY to hide, but I embrace it with a little humor every now and then. I’m sure this is my defense mechanism, but who rather to make light of my weight than myself?

So what are chubby girl problems? These are chubby girl problems…

Wearing jeans in the hot summer and burning up because you don’t feel comfortable in shorts. Chubby girl problems.

Never going for what you want because you are afraid your size will get in the way. Chubby girl problems.

Full body photos, ‘nuf said. Chubby girl problems.

When you find crumbs in your bra. Chubby girl problems.

When you have to go buy new jeans not because they don’t fit anymore, but because you’ve rubbed a hole in the crotch because of your legs rubbing together. Chubby girl problems. This is the reason I have to go shopping today…ugh…

I know not everyone can relate to these problems, but if you’ve ever been chubby you know what I’m talking about! Although I am eating healthy and losing weight, I’m still a big girl and these are all issues I face being overweight. Who knows, maybe one day I’ll be able to write a blog called Skinny Girl Problems. πŸ™‚
